Cleaning an STP
ALWAYS read your device’s instructions to see how it specifically should be cleaned.
But in general, basic soap and water is all you need, and the Pibella can be boiled.
When cleaning, focus especially on the back of the STP, the part that hits your perineum (“taint”). But obviously clean everywhere. If your STP has a tube that can be removed, detach it to clean.
Most STP makers assume that if you need to use an STP, you won’t be near a bathroom with soap and water. Most STPs are designed to be repel liquid and be shaken dry. If you have a water bottle, pouring water over it can be a good measure, as can carrying Wet Wipes.
Look into your heart and decide how easy-to-clean you need your STP to be. A Venus to Mars or a pStyle takes seconds with a Wet Wipe; a funnel is a little harder to clean on the go.
In a pinch, remember the bits to focus on are the bits that touch your body. The whole thing doesn’t necessarily have to be sterilized in the field.
If you can’t rinse your STP between uses, be aware that a plastic pouch will develop a stank. A washable fabric pouch is easier to keep clean. If you’re able to rinse with water, a Ziploc works fine. You can also keep an STP tied in a bandana for convenience.
