STP Device Review

Below are my descriptions of fourteen STP devices. For my overall conclusions, see Choosing an STP. Colors not fixed; Sharpie for scale.

Everyone’s experience is different. These reviews reflect use by an able-bodied, cis gender woman of average height and weight. They were not tested in extreme weather conditions. If you would like to share a different experience, please email me, Maz, at gostandingup@gmail.com

STP Descriptions

Trough Models: Venus to Mars (7.99$), pStyle (11.99$), Tinkle Belle (27.50$)

  • Venus to Mars: black; pStyle: turquoise; Tinkle Belle: black and green.

  • Hard plastic (but the rubber spout of the Tinkle Belle folds back for storage).

  • Basically a taco with the back end closed off.

  • Easy to slide into clothing.

  • Incredibly easy to clean, especially Venus to Mars and pStyle.

  • All project reasonably far from body, but do not compare to range of any funnel model with an extender.

  • Does not have to fit perfectly against your body to work, as long as you keep it tilted down.

  • You can pee in bottles, but it’s a little trickier than with a tube that slides into the bottle.

  • Venus to Mars is (by a hair) the smallest. It’s the same length as the pStyle, but slightly more shallow and just slightly lighter weight. Some have complained of overflow; I did not have that problem.

  • pStyle is the happy medium. Also sleek and simple, slightly less compact, slightly greater projection. This model is very popular.

  • pStyle does come in flesh tones! You’d have to buy directly from the website, not Amazon.

  • Tinkle Belle has the greatest projection, as it is the longest, and the spouts folds back for storage. It’s also the thickest, making it the most durable.

Rubbery Funnels: GoGirl (15.99-20.99$), SuAmiga (18.95-22.95$), Sunany (9.99$)

  • GoGirl: pale pink; SuAmiga: blue; Sunany: magenta pink. GoGirl and Sunany have their extension tubes attached. (SuAmiga does not come with an extension tube.)

  • Many generic versions of these exist! If you want a squishy funnel and none of these work, keep searching, read reviews.

  • Squishable, packable, and in the case of Go Girl and Su Amiga, pocketable.

  • These are a little harder to get into your pants without squishing them, so prepare for some maneuvering.

  • If you squeeze these while peeing, they will bend out of shape and spill pee.

  • GoGirl and Sunany come with fun extension tubes; although GoGirl might not depending on what package you buy. I strongly suggest getting a package with a tube. If you need to project, or are wearing bulky clothing, this is a great option.

  • SuAmiga has a plus size and a petite model. The petite model is pictured here.

  • SuAmiga is ribbed and collapsible, so it can flatten for a pocket. It’s also a firmer silicone, so harder to mush out of shape. GoGirl is much thinner and easier to bend out of shape; Sunany is closer to GoGirl in that respect.

  • Sunany is relatively large, but the size also makes it very easy to place. It’s hard to mess this one up. In addition, although it is not marketed “plus size,” it is just larger.

Pibella (19.00$)

  • A slim, small plastic straw, slightly wider at one end. Unique on this list because it goes between the labia and covers the urethra.

  • Can easily pee in bottles.

  • Very small and discreet.

  • Advertises itself as good for peeing sitting down too (didn’t have much luck myself).

  • You don’t need to wipe.

  • Barely any clothing rearrangement required due to its precision and size.

  • Feels quite… invasive. But you get used to that!

  • You have to be able to place it right every time. Because when it doesn’t work, it really doesn’t. But if you have the touch, it’s a great option!

This assessment refers to the Pibella Travel, which is available on Amazon. There is also Pibella Comfort, which is for sitting and lying down, and which I have not tried.

Pibella

Freshette (23.95$)

  • Hard funnel, with a bendable tube that clips back for storage— it will go into a large pocket.

  • Very easy to aim, and the tube gives better projection than the trough models.

  • According to advertising, can withstand extreme temperatures.

  • Because the funnel is hard, you aren’t going to squeeze pee on yourself.

  • Very easy bottle peeing!

  • You can also buy the Freshette with pee bags or a 36” tube.

  • Any funnel model is a little harder to clean.

Freshette

GoPee (15.99$)

  • Foldable pee funnel of flexible plastic. It can be stored flat in your pocket, then snapped into a funnel about the length of the pStyle.

  • Has about the same profile as the trough style—easy to use, hard to squish.

  • Easy to clean as it can be made into a flat sheet of plastic.

  • For obvious reasons, it is the most compact, storable option.

  • Does not leak.

  • Very good projection.

  • Slightly harder to get into pants. It just takes a minute, not impossible.

  • The squeegee-motion to wipe is a little harsh, since the plastic is thinner, but not painful.

GoPee

EllaPee (10.59$)

  • Adaptable hybrid. Firm plastic support around funnel, rubber tube spout pointing out that can be folded back for storage.

  • Less able to direct flow that other models with a tube however; tube is bendy but fixed.

  • Large funnel portion reduces risk of overflow.

  • This one is easy to use and goes in pants well.

  • Pretty straightforward: if it works for your body, a great choice.

  • As with any tube, needs more careful cleaning.

SheWee (16.50$)

  • As far as what is available in the US, I found “SheWee Extreme” and “SheWee Flex.” They are very similar. SheWee Extreme is blue and the Flex is khaki.

  • Both come with a handy extension tube that detaches for storage.

  • The projection is extremely good.

  • Both have a sharply angled funnel—position very carefully.

  • Very easy to insert into clothing! But can be tricky to position once in there

  • A little hard to wipe-squeegee with the pointed funnel, but doable.

  • SheWee Flex is a little bendier and the funnel is a little wider.

  • With the extension tube detached, these are very storable and packable.

  • The Shewee is like the Pibella in that it takes precision and practice. If this is the one for you, you may have to put in some time.

Disposable STPs: Flenware Stand and Go (7.99$) and Sanigirl (9.99$ for 10)

  • Flenware is red; Sanigirl is white and brown.

  • People say these can feel “cleaner” since you throw them away after a single use (or put them in a ziplock to dispose of later).

  • Since they’re single use, you can give someone else who needs one an STP.

  • There are some obvious drawbacks: you might run out, if you need an STP regularly it is not cost effective, and it is less environmentally sound.

  • Both are perfectly functional, with no leaks and good projection.

  • Since they are paper, you have to be a little cautious about getting them in your pants.

  • Be sure you press them snug against your body.

  • SaniGirl has a clear advantage in that the funnels are stored flat. They won’t take up much space in your pack, and you can easily slip one into your pocket or purse. Flenware is bulkier.

  • When might you use these? If the circumstance you need them for is a one-time thing; if you are nervous about germs (though as I have stated, STPs are easy to clean); if you fear commitment; if you want to bring enough for buddies.
